Installation sonore, agrémentée de deux photos.

A l’occasion de sessions d’hospitalisation, l’artiste a équipé sa chambre de microphones (en accord avec l’hôpital et le personnel) et enregistré son quotidien de patient.

Il en a conservé plusieurs moments :
• la séquence-type d’entrée dans sa chambre : toquage à la porte, grincement de l’ouverture, salutations par le personnel ;
• les adresses du personnel au patient, toujours pleines d’humour et d’empathie ;
• des petits moments de soins, mais jamais des données médicales « lourdes » ou confidentielles.
La voix de l’artiste est systématiquement enlevée.

De la successions de ces séquences a été créé un long montage porté par des sons issus de synthétiseurs : un ostinato diffus mais portant un battement doux et régulier, et des trames délicatement changeantes par-dessus.
L’ensemble prises de son + synthétiseurs constitue ainsi un moment sans aucun pathos, mais plutôt une rêverie, un temps distendu, une torpeur, traversés de moments de profonde humanité et d’humour par la voix des soignants et des personnels de l’hôpital.

Sound installation, accompanied by two photos.

During hospitalization sessions, the artist equipped his room with microphones (in agreement with the admin and staff of the hospital) and recorded his daily life as a patient.

He preserved several moments:
• the typical sequence of entering his room: knocking on the door, the creaking of the door, greetings from the staff;
• the staff’s words to the patient, always full of humor and empathy;
• brief moments of care, but never with « heavy » or confidential medical information.
The artist’s voice is systematically removed.

From the succession of these sequences, a long montage was created, carried by synthesizer sounds: a diffuse ostinato but carrying a soft and regular beat, and delicately changing overtones.

The ensemble of sound recordings + synthesizers thus constitutes a moment without any pathos, but rather a reverie, a distended time, a torpor, crossed by moments of profound humanity and humor by the voices of the caregivers and hospital staff.

Deux photos champ-contrechamp du couloir d’hôpital sont disposées de part et d’autre ; ces photos présentent un point de vue inhabituel car elles sont vides de toute présence humaine, contrairement à la bande-son.

Two shot and reverse-shot photographs of the hospital corridor are arranged on either side; these photographs present an unusual point of view because they are devoid of any human presence, the opposite of the soundtrack.

Une version speciale de ce travail est destinée à être installée à demeure dans le couloir du service où les prises de son ont été faites (et donc où l’artiste a été soigné), à l’Hôpital Nord de Marseille.
Cette installation porte une part d’hommage au personnel soignant et auxiliaire.

A special version of this work is intended to be permanently installed in the corridor of the department where the sound recordings were made (and therefore where the artist was treated) at the North Hospital in Marseille.
This installation is also a tribute to the nursing and support staff.
